Pascal Klewer is a german trumpet player and composer born in 1997. He currently studies jazz trumpet at the Cologne Music Conservatory with Andy Haderer, Matthias Bergmann and Jürgen Friedrich, where he started in 2015.
Pascal began playing the trumpet at the age of 8 and soon played in several local orchestras as well as in numerous school ensembles.
At the age of 14 while living in Austin, Texas he began intensively listening and learning about jazz. A year later he started founding his own groups, being a sideman, as well as composing for different genres and groups.
Pascal leads his own Bigband Pascal Klewer Bigband, conducts an Amateur Bigband in Duisburg, as well as co-leading a duo with cologne-based drummer Simon Bräumer and a trio with the greek bass player Sofia Eftychidou and drummer Simon Bräumer. Since 2014 he is also a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Hessen. He also is a member of the renowned Bundesjazzorchester. He is also a part of the cologne-based HipHop Brass Band MOZAH.
Other Bands he has played/toured/recorded with: Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, European Jazz School Ensemble, Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Subway Jazz Orchestra, Grand Central Orchestra, Landesjugendblasorchester Hessen, Landesjugendjazzorchester Rheinland-Pfalz, Landesjugendjazzorchester NRW, Next Generation Orchestra, Sonnemann Quintet, Upper Manhattan Jazz Group, RMS Jazzorchestra , Zoum Sondy´s Unions Sound…
He has worked and/or played with numerous renommated musicians such as Dianne Schuur, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Darcy James Argue, Niels Klein etc.
He has written commissioned works for several ensembles, for example the Subway Jazz Orchestra, the Junior Band of the LJJO Hessen and the Symphonic Band of the Gymnasium Gernsheim. For his own Bigband he has written works for featured Artists such as Niels Klein, Peter Brötzmann, Christian Lillinger, Kit Downes, Evan Parker and Christopher Dell.
Other projects he writes or has written for are Bigband, Large Ensemble, Quintet/Quartet/Trio/Duo(s), Brassquintet, String Quartet and Symphonic Orchestra . He has won a 2nd Prize for his Bigband Composition New Steps at Jugend Komponiert Hessen – Bigband.
Pascal has toured and played in Bolivia, Lithuania, Canada, China, USA, Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Luxemburg and Germany.
Venues he has performed in are: Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie Köln,Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Kurhaus Wiesbaden, Glocke Bremen, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Beethovenhalle Bonn and Bauerstudios Ludwigsburg . Normally he performs in small jazzclubs and bars.
He has studied with Andy Haderer, Mathias Bergmann, Jürgen Friedrich, Axel Schlosser, Jan Oosthof, Jan Wessels, Mark Armstrong, Ralph Mosch Himmler, Jörg Engels, Malte Burba, Heiko Wahl and others.
Besides playing and writing Pascal is also very engaged in teaching, listening to music and loves to cook.
